Steel in my heart and a tongue of stone… Song 146

I almost did this song with just an acoustic guitar and vocals. But, I couldn’t resist fleshing it out some more. I think it works either way. I like the mood of this song. There’s an instability in the air that will lead to storms later, and this song feels like that energy to me. It floats along, subtly building to a storm-like conclusion. I like it…

Song 146: “Higher Walls”

Raise your arms and find your wind
Chase that lover’s only friend
Tell your tales in hushed words
Never let them see you shine

Higher walls, higher walls

If I’m late only time will tell
I can’t get up if I never fell
Startled faces judged by angel wings
Back away from what it brings

Higher walls, higher walls

Steel in my heart and a tongue of stone
Ruling nothing from a broken throne
Spears and arrows are all I know
Sticks and stones won’t break my bones

Higher walls, higher walls

Taste my pain and wake me up
A roulette wheel that never stops
Wind me up and watch it drop

Higher walls, higher walls
Higher walls, higher walls
