I’m aware of lifetimes trailing off… Song 180

This is a pretty simple song, structurally speaking. The intro serves as both the pre-chorus and bridge. Other than that, there’s just the verse part and the chorus part. Where it gets interesting (to me at least) is the interplay of open strings and the synth. The drums and bass serve as a strong foundation, but it also feels pretty fluid to me. The lyrics are another of those stream of consciousness things that I like so much. I just put pen to paper and write a line. More often than not I somehow come up with a cohesive song.

Song 180: “Sighing Softly”

I’ll count your blessings
Like a ghost in the wind
Sighing softly

I count the days I’ve been missing
Chapters in a book never read
I go down a rabbit hole or two
Sighing softly

I stand by the edge of the world
Watching other lives go by
Sighing softly

I stand alone in the morning mist
Putting numbers on empty pages
I never see an end to it all
Sighing softly

I mark the time out slowly
I’m aware of lifetimes trailing off
I must be an afterthought

I count my blessings, I count the days
Sighing softly
