The Sun is Shining…

Well, I’ve been hard at work. Several irons in the fire, so to speak. I’m ramping up to release my first single in a few days. I bounce back and forth between wanting to just use my own name vs. the band name I’ve used on and off for over a decade. This time around, I’ve decided to go with the band name. “Somnistatic” it is! This single (actually a double because there’s a “B” side) was originally part of my 366 song project. The track showed some serious promise, but as is the nature of that project, it suffered from the lack of available time to do it justice. So, now it’s reworked, revamped and remixed and it deserves it’s own release. So, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out and I’m excited to see it’s release!

I hope you enjoy it!

Long time, no post…

It’s been quite a while since my last post. I have to get back to posting more.

Since my last post, I’ve done quite a few things, although I haven’t accomplished the goals I set at the beginning of the year. Here’s what’s happened so far:

800 Days:

I put out a 6 song E.P. called 800 Days. It put my total released songs up to 800 songs now. It turned out pretty good! Check it out here:

Dying Days:

This album has stalled basically. I still need to find a way to get the money together to get it made. The album is finished, but I’d need to get roughly $2000 to release it physically. That may be doable soon, but, it’s on hold for now.

T-Shirts! Coffee cups! Ect!

I launched an online merch store for t-shirts and bathmats and whatnots. I’m working on more and more designs. You can check it out here if you’re interested:

Live shows:

Well, I haven’t performed live as much as I would like. But I did do some livestreams on YouTube and I played at ZuZu’s again. That was a really fun show! I hope to get some bookings in the near future. I’ve been emailing and emailing and searching and searching for gigs. Something will turn up.

31 Days of Beatles:

One project I did this year was really fun for me. I covered a different Beatles song every day of July this year. It turned out pretty good and I got a lot of good response. You can check that out here:

Current events:

I’m currently working on getting my discography on spotify and itunes and all those other hives of scum and villainy. It’s a slow process though. Uploading and tagging hundreds of songs takes time. But, it’s happening!

I’m working on trying to get song placements and licensing. I’ve written and recorded a bunch of new songs/instrumentals trying to get them placed. Other than that, I’m working on an E.P. of new songs. It should be a nice bookend to the summer.

So, to sum up, I haven’t accomplished most of what I set out to do this year, but I’ve got a lot of great things to show for my efforts this year. I’m still working hard. That’s all I can do for sure. I’m gonna keep rolling along. I feel like I’m building up steam. So, I’ve got that going for me, which is nice.

Tata till next time!

New Year, New Goals…

Well, 2017 is upon us. After a (well deserved, in my opinion) break from making music, I’m jumping back into it.

I’m looking at releasing two albums this year, one (the first) will be an album taken from my 366 Song Project, but re-recorded and professionally finished. It will be called “Dying Days” and will be released on Vinyl, CD, Digital and streaming. It will be available on all the major outlets for purchase. The next step is for me to raise the cash to get it produced. So, I’ll be starting a GoFundMe campaign to get it done. There will be some fun perks in exchange for support. I’ve lined up a two-time Grammy award winning engineer to mix the album for me. It will sound amazing!

The second album (probably released around autumn) will be called “High Tide”. I don’t have anything lined up for that one though. So, we’ll see how the first album turns out.

The other goal I have for 2017 is to start playing live shows again. I’m going to get out and play again and really rock it out. In addition to playing venues, I’ll be doing “virtual concerts” periodically throughout the year on YouTube. I hope ya’ll can catch the shows!

As an addendum, I’ve tallied up the total number of songs I’ve written and released, the total is 794… just 6 songs short of an even 800. That doesn’t sit right with me. So, in the next few weeks, I’m going to record a 6 song EP and release it so I can ease my mild OCD… but then again, that puts me a mere 200 songs away from an even 1000. I’ll tackle that at some point too, I’m sure.

Anyway, Happy New Year everyone! And stay in touch…

Matt

The good times never end… Song 366!

Well, the year is over. I successfully completed my 366 Song Project! It seems like a lifetime ago since I started, but it feels good to accomplish something of value. I feel good going into 2017. I’m going to release two albums and try to perform live as much as possible. Hell, I may even put a band together. The sky’s the limit… until I perfect the warp drive… then there is no limit. Happy 2017 to ya’ll! See ya next year!

Song 366: “Good Times”

Where do you go when you’ve worn out your welcome
How does it feel to be unknown
I’m sure I wouldn’t know

The good times never end

Why should I wonder out loud
Why should the wind carry my voice
I’m sure no one’s listening

Sometimes it feels like I’m dying
Other days the good times never end
At least I can pretend

The good times never end

Why should I care if I’m falling
The wind feels good on my face
I’m sure I’ll be caught soon

Sometimes it feels like I’m dying
Other days the good times never end
At least I can pretend

Be glad you’re here
Count the seconds down
Be thankful that you made it out alive

Sometimes it feels like I’m dying
Other days the good times never end
At least I can pretend

The good times never end

Good riddance to you, the reaper… Song 365

One more song to go! This year is almost over, and not a day too soon. Is it me, or has this year been longer than the last three or so? The reaper has certainly been making up for lost time. The hits keep coming and we know we’ll have to face it eventually. It’s draining to think about. Good riddance to the reaper, good riddance to 2016!

Song 365: “Reaper”

Time is fleeting and that clock never stops
Mind the meaning and know when to walk

Good riddance to you, the reaper
The world keeps spinning along

None of us are evergreen, but here none the less
All of us know what it means, we’re all in this mess

Good riddance to you, the reaper
The world keeps spinning along

We weather the storms we’ve been watching, we catch the drift
We wonder where the time went, while we sit in this rift

Good riddance to you, the reaper
The world keeps spinning along

There’s no time to waste
You can’t just run in place
You can’t outrun the reaper

You can’t outrun the reaper
You can’t outrun the reaper

Knocking on the door of fates not mine… Song 364

Two more songs to go! I counted up all the songs I’ve released in total and after this project is done, I’ll have released 794 songs. Just six away from an even 800… just 206 away from an even thousand… hmm.

Today’s song ended up coming together quickly from a very simple acoustic guitar part. As I was strumming, my brain started firing off ideas on the direction the song should go. I added some strings then drums and I had to add a piano. Oddly, there are no synths in this one. But I think it ended up pretty good, especially the jam part at the end.

Song 364: “Waiting, Chasing”

Waiting for the end to come
Chasing what I used to know is true

Waiting for the world to catch up
Chasing a world I cannot see, it’s me

Knocking on the door of fates not mine
Finding ways to pass the time I wasted

Waiting for my chance to shine
Chasing a choice to leave behind, in flames

Knocking down the door to find what’s mine
Tripping over my own mind, I waited

All those days, still I wait
All these days, spend wondering
Spent waiting

A cloud of doubt is always hanging around… Song 363

Clouds, then sun, then back to clouds. There’s always some cloud or another hanging around. Many times I have that hopeless feeling, like that sun will never shine again. Then, it feels like, maybe that sun wasn’t here to begin with. Maybe it’s always been clouds. Maybe that sunshine was only illusions. A trick. A trap. A kick in the teeth. Or, maybe tomorrow will be better…

Song 363: “I Must Be”

I never meant to make a mess of this
I never meant to waste all this time
When I think of what I meant to be
I must have been out of my mind

Always day by day
Out of prayers to say
A cloud of doubt is always hanging around

I always thought I wasn’t afraid
I always thought I had it made
When I stop and think, I fail
I must be out of my mind

Always day by day
Out of words to day
A cloud of fear is always hanging around

I never want to fall into fear
I never want to claw my heart out
When I wonder, I’ve got nothing
I must be out of my mind

Wind blows across my face
It feels like being erased
Forgotten memory

I must be out of my mind
I must be out of my mind
I must be out of my mind
